SERENITY Sundays Coming Soon!
10 May 2010, written by Buzz 1 CommentsThe hit Christian manga series SERENITY is coming to Snokie — and you can read it for free!
SERENITY is comedic Christian teen soap opera
about an unhappy girl who finds a happy ending.
A wild, rebellious girl with bright blue hair and a chip on her shoulder the size of a sequoia, Serenity Harper is ostracized by every kid at her new school except a small teen prayer group who decide no matter how obnoxious she is, they won’t wash their hands of her. This ongoing series shows how they eventually win Serenity’s trust and she wins their friendship, how she becomes a Christian, how she grows, how she changes, and ultimately how she ends up deserving her name.
Serenity is anything but serene. A wild, rebellious girl from Hollywood, her ex-hippie mother drags her out into the middle of nowhere (i.e., Kansas) to live. To the world, Serenity is a tough, foul-mouthed kid with bright blue hair and a ‘tude designed to hold people at arm’s length. Inside, however, she’s wracked with doubt, anxiety, and guilt and often wonders why she behaves in such a stupid, self-defeating manner. How her newfound friends help her through their Christian witness is what our story is all about.
Key people in Serenity’s life include:
Derek Angstrom — The tall, good looking teen leader of the school’s Prayer Club, but a young man haunted by his own past. Serenity almost immediately falls in love with him, which would not be a problem except for…
Kimberly Calvin — Derek’s girl friend, a preacher’s kid whose initial pity for Serenity turns to rivalry. Kimberly’s story is one of a person raised with strong morals having to fight the temptation to abandon them in pursuit of what she wants.
Blossom Harper — Serenity’s ex-hippie mother whose woefully inadequate parenting skills contribute to Serenity’s problems. As Serenity grows as a Christian, she is able to accept her mother and love her despite her short-comings.
Mr. Grandy — A high school teacher who serves as both a Christian mentor and a father figure for Serenity, but who has to be careful of running afoul of…
Ms Baxter — The school guidance counselor, a radical social engineer determined to silence any voices contrary to her own half-baked psycho-babble.
Lori Martin — Serenity’s best friend at school, a girl jock.
Tim Patterson — A teen media mogul who works as a DJ and makes amateur movies with Serenity and the rest of her friends.
Sally Richmond — The youngest member of the cast, a high school freshmen with a fondness for really bad puns.
Eddie Bradford — A farm boy with surprisingly sophisticated tastes.
We’ll be uploading 5 new pages every Sunday, starting with the very first SERENITY graphic novel, “New BAD Girl In Town”.
